| Practically every device, every machine has a human-machine interface through which commands and information can be exchanged. Important components are the input keyboard and the output media such as displays or printers. These elements are usually integrated into control panels, front panels, control drawers or portable terminals on the front. Essential for the selection of the right components are the requirements for usability, frequency of use and the environmental conditions in which the HMI (Human Machine Interface) is to be used. | |
| Membrane Keyboards | |
| Pure membrane keyboards, in which the switching elements of the keys are arranged between two membranes, which also carry the conductor track matrix in printed form, are components which, for cost and technology reasons, should usually only be used in larger series. | |
| Membrane covered keyboards | |
| For smaller series, the developer likes to fall back on the foil-covered keyboard, where the foil, which is screen-printed in multiple colors from the back, is glued to the front of the housing and thus takes on sealing and design functions at the same time. | |
| Silicone keyboard | |
| While a two-dimensional surface is primarily formed with foils, the use of silicone keyboard technology allows the formation of three-dimensional structures. With these so-called rubber keyboards, as with membrane keyboards, the range of standard parts on the market is rather meager. The strength lies clearly in the design options, namely using the buttons through arrangement, shape and color in such a way that the tendency towards intuitive operation is strongly supported. This requires the application-dependent special design of the keyboard mats. | |
| Make the breakthrough | |
| And something else is very interesting about these cost-effective silicon keyboards from GeBE: It is very easy to install in a front panel. All that needs to be done is a simple, major breakthrough that encompasses the entire keyboard. Since these key mats have their own housing body, the often very complicated design of individual openings for each key is no longer necessary. |
