Description

Professional article: 20 years online store
In January 1998, the company GeBE Computer & Peripherie GmbH went online as one of the first stores for keyboards and accessories. With two decades of experience as an online store, the company is probably one of the pioneers in the field of online trade with industrial products.
Starting in the 90s outfit and with static web design, tastaturen.com has continuously adapted to the digital changes. Today, the website is of course 'responsive', the corporate identity is modern and many orders now also come via large trade portals. Time-consuming phone calls and fax messages have given way to quick e-mail and online orders. "Nevertheless, personal customer service still comes first," says Paul Pabst, managing director. "Especially due to the focus on the development and production of customized keyboards, we still have a lot of personal contact with the customer. On-site visits and joint project arrangements are essential. As a result, bit by bit, we've carved out a solid place for ourselves in the market for small to medium-volume industrial OEM products."
Flat hierarchies, short decision-making paths
In addition to online sales of standard keyboards for industry, medicine and the office sector, the customer-specific OEM sector now accounts for almost 2/3 of total sales. The number of employees has remained constant over the years: GeBE has maintained an extremely flat hierarchy with an average of 5 - 10 employees and is today one of the niche suppliers as far as the development and production of small and medium series OEM products is concerned. Customers who order once usually stay for life.
More sales, less stock
Orders in the area of standard keyboards are increasingly coming from large trading portals such as Amazon Marketplace. However, warehousing and shipping are still anchored in-house at GeBE. 'With half as much warehousing, we make twice as much turnover today,' says Pabst. This fact is certainly due in no small part to the increasing speed of suppliers. Today, the delivery time for standard equipment is 1-3 business days. Compared to the early days of the online store, a saving of almost 2-3 days delivery time. The company strategy continues to focus on individual advice and reliable service. Even the cooperation with the trade portals will probably not change this in the future. Although this form of trade partnership with ¼ of the total orders, has brought a lot of fresh wind in the annual sales. (3,138 characters)
